VIDYUT SURAKSHIT BHARAT ABHIYAN

On an average about 10,000 people are electrocuted annually in India. Deaths and loss of property due electrical fires and fire due to short circuits are to be added to this number. Fire brigades in cities like Mumbai report that approximately 70 % fire accidents in buildings are due to electric fire and fire due to short circuit.

These accidents are due to the poor electrical safety methods followed and existing in the country. 

The Mass awareness campaign VIDYUT SURAKSHIT BHARAT ABHIYAN is to create awareness on electrical safety and reduce accidents due to electrocution and fire due to short circuit

Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA)

CISSA is a multi-disciplinary organisation initiated in 2006 by group of scientists and professionals from different fields and upholding the concept of sustainable development. Major activities of CISSA include Agriculture & Agri-business Development, Rural Development, Education for Sustainable Development, Biodiversity Conservation, Energy Management, Green Industry and Clean Technologies, Waste Management, Ayurveda, Food & Nutrition, Science Popularisation and Climate Change. CISSA has got well acclaimed infrastructure and expertise in these disciplines. A team of dedicated scientists and professionals having more than three decades of experience in their respective fields are giving leadership to the programmes envisaged as per the objectives of the institute.

 

CISSA has its own land of 2.1 acres area in Thiruvananthapuram District where new campus for the organisation is being planned. The scientific fraternity associated with the centre initiated Research and Development and Extension activities in the thrust areas and have also been streamlined by establishment of laboratory and publications. All these are made massive people’s movement by virtue of precise communication strategies.

 

Currently CISSA is headquarters of Regional Centre for Expertise (RCE), Thiruvananthapuram acknowledged by UN University. CISSA is recognised as Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations (SIROs), by DSIR, Govt. of India. The Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Government of India empanelled CISSA as a Cluster based Business Organisation (CBBO) for Implementation of Central Sector Scheme for Formation and Promotion of 10000 Farmer Producers' Organisations (FPOs).

 

CISSA was registered under The Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955 (Registration number: T 5145/06, date: 22-11-2006).

 

During last 5 years, CISSA has organised 14 National/International Festivals & Conferences, 7 National Seminars, 16 State Level Seminars, 150 Training programmes, 17 Workshops, 19 public lectures, 14 National/State Level Exhibitions, 516 Public Awareness Classes, 21 Competitions, 1350 school awareness programmes, 15 important day celebrations, and stall participation in 48 exhibitions. Through these programmes, communicated science and technology directly to 4.2 Lakhs students, 3500 farmers and 14 lakhs general public.

 

Science and Technology awareness through publications in print and electronic forms (both in Malayalam and English) is yet another thrust of CISSA covering science, agriculture, environment and health.

 

As recognition of its commendable work, CISSA has received awards such as Global Prize- Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Okayama Award of Japan in 2017; Best Organization award of 2017 (best organisation working on biodiversity) instituted by Kerala State Biodiversity Board; Metro Mart's Food Innovation Award 2018- National Banana Festival 2018; Medibiz Ayur Excellence Award 2017 - Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) and Sresta Seva Puraskaram 2016- Jackfruit Promotion.

 

CISSA has implemented various projects/ programmes on the different thrust areas with the support from Ministry of AYUSH, DST, NMPB, NHM, NHB, SFAC India, Govt. of India; KSCSTE, DoECC, KITE, Dept of Tourism, Dept. of Industries, Museums &Zoos, Govt of Kerala and from private agencies.
