·CONSULTANCY

About 16 consultancy projects secured.

Significant projects:

  • Lightning Performance Study for Grid Maintenance North (SUBZONE PERDA) Transmission Lines

  • TFR Improvement for 500 kV Transmission Lines

  • Lightning Protection System for Large Scale Solar (LSS) PV Farm

  • GIS-based Lightning Risk Assessment

  • EMC and Induced Effect on Parallel Structures

  • DLR for Grid System Optimisation

  • LIOV on Overhead Distribution Line System Performance

·SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS

  1. Provide the expert solution to National Grid i.e. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) on various key projects including tower footing resistance (TFR) improvement and measurement, GIS-based risk assessment, dynamic line rating (DLR) for current capacity optimization, automatic fault classification algorithm and lightning performance studies including transmission line arrester (TLA) assessment for several critical and super-critical lines (500 kV).

  1. Pioneering the work of Geomagnetic Induced Current (GIC) and its impact on transmission system network (132, 275 and 500 kV systems) in Malaysia where a comprehensive work is currently ongoing utilizing the actual transmission system networks in Malaysia.

  1. Insulation coordination studies for DC fourth rail system where Malaysia is the 3rd country in the world that implements such a system.

  1. Advising government agencies such as Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) and the Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC). Apart from contributing to the national and international standard development on lightning protection and high voltage engineering, his notable contributions to the National and International is to assist the Energy Commission of Malaysia issued a circular relating to lightning protection and to produce a lightning protection guidebook as a reference for the engineers, consultants and other organizations within and outside the country. The circular prohibits the use of unsafe lightning protection systems in Malaysia and often referred to as an example to follow by the international lightning protection community. Recently in January 2020, the direction paper was released in strengthening the Electrical Supply Act 1990 (Act 447) on the MS IEC 62305 enforcement on lightning protection system (LPS) for buildings. https://www.st.gov.my/en/contents/article/polisi/circular/lightning.pdf https://www.st.gov.my/en/details/policies/Directions/10 (Policy paper)

  1. In 2016, he has led a team of CELP which was given a responsibility by SEDA to prepare a guidebook on Lightning Protection for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, which was released in August 2016.
